Activities:

1. Write the letters E-C-L-I-P-S-E down the left side of a piece of paper. Paste a newspaper word that starts with each of the letters next to the appropriate letter. For example, you might paste the word “Earth” next to the first E.

2. Plan an eclipse party. Find food items that have names that are related to space ( such as moonpies ) in the newspaper for your party. Find four people you would invite to your party. Explain your choices.

3. Use the Internet to find when the eclipse will be in full force in your area . How long will it last? What plans do you have to view the eclipse?

4. How are these related to the eclipse: (a) Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, (b) penumbra (c) 1979 and (d) eclipse glasses?

5. Think about how the eclipse would have affected people who lived in days be fore eclipses were understood. Write a story about people experiencing an eclipse. What might they think caused the eclipse? Write about how people react to the eclipse.

Mini Page activities meet many state and national educational standards. Each week we identify standards that relate to The Mini Page content and offer activities that will help your students reach them.

This week's standard:
