Seaweed microbots could one day treat cancer, researcher says
Researchers at the Technological University of Munich TUM are pioneering seaweed microrobots, revolutionizing medicine with their ability to navigate cell networks and stimulate individual cells for potential disease treatments. Led by Berna Ozkale Edelmann, these microrobots, just half the width of a human hair, offer promising avenues for personalized medicine and tissue repair for patients battling cancer or other diseases.
■Class discussion: Do you think doctors may someday inject tiny robots into patients instead cutting them open to remove tumors or repair damage? What could be the risks of putting microrobots into a body? How are robots already dramatically changing surgery? Are doctors removing tumors or repairing injuries and sending patients home the same day? How are doctors designing individualized treatments for their patients?
