Taylor Swift swarmed by conspiracy theories
Wild conspiracy theories about Taylor Swift seemed to jump from the fringes of the internet to the mainstream as conservative political and media figures amplified rumors, including the notion that she and her boyfriend Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs are involved in a secret plan to get President Biden reelected in 2024. Some right-wing pundits claim the NFL is rigging the playoffs and the Super Bowl to somehow help Swift endorse Biden over Donald Trump like she did in 2020.
■Class discussion: Why are Donald Trump supporters in the media targeting Taylor Siwft? Are they worried she could sway young voters? Are they just trying gain more noteriety, viewers, and money? Who is more popular Swift or Trump? Who would you rather listen to? Do you think very wealthy NFL team owners all their players would all secretly conspire to rig playoff games and the Super Bowl to help a political candidate? Do people embrace conspiracy theories because they reinforce their own prejudices and fears?
