As States Discuss Reopening, Experts Are Wary On Whether It's Safe

State lawmakers are beginning to lay out plans to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic. However some infectious disease specialists say it is premature to rollback shelter-in-place efforts. They say reopening stores a business too quickly could overwhelm the U.S.' current testing capacity. A former director of the CDC said orchestrating less than 150,000 tests a day is too little, adding officials need to be testing 10 to 20 times more than that. White House officials say there are plenty of tests, but state governors disagree.

Class discussion: Are you worried that the shelter-in-place restrictions will be lifted too soon? Why or why not? Has your family suffered unemployment or other economic losses from the shutdowns? Do you or your family know anyone who has been killed by COVID-19? Do a majority of Americans want to reopen the economy immediately or are they worried we may be going too fast? Why don’t we have more tests for the coronavirus? Does it worry you that many or most of the people with the virus don’t know they have it? Could they spread it without knowing?
