Two robot submersibles spent more than 200 hours in 2022 taking more than 715,000 photos of the Titanic wreck at the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean. Those photos have been stitched together to create an extremely detailed, 3D digital scan of the wreck. Promoted as “unsinkable,’ the British passenger liner was on its maiden voyage when it struck an iceberg in 1912 and sank, killing more than 1,500 people.
Class discussion: Why are people still fascinated by a tragedy that took place over a century ago? Does the new video of the Titanic wreck interest you? Do you imagine how you might react in a similarly traumatic situation? Do companies still make outlandish claims like their ship being unsinkable? Are any buildings completely fireproof or stormproof? Can any investment guarantee huge profits at no risk? Why do people believe such claims?
