■Class discussion: How many school shootings have already occurred this year? Do you think a shooting could ever happen at your school? Why or why not? Some lawmakers want to allow teachers and other civilians to carry guns in schools. Would that make schools safer or more dangerous? Is it easy or difficult for young people to get guns? How many children are killed by guns each year? If you had the power, what would you do to reduce gun violence?
