Party-hardy spring breakers are packing bars and beaches in south Florida, regardless of the risk and the warnings. There’s hardly a mask in sight, and you might not even know there was a pandemic. Health officials are urging people not to travel, fearing another surge in cases just as cases have begun to drop nationwide and vaccine rollout is ramping up. The virus could be brought back to college campuses and cause new waves of infections.
Class discussion: Are you planning on traveling during your school’s spring break? Are young people gathering for parties doing anything wrong? Why or why not? Has your state lifted pandemic restrictions? Do you agree with public health officials who warn that it is way too early to stop wearing face masks and avoiding crowded situations? Could widespread travel and easing restrictions lead to many more deaths? Could the spread of more contagious and deadly variants of the coronavirus threaten all of us?
