Spotlight on Erin Winick, 10th grade
Freedom High School, Tampa

Erin on Erin ...

Hi, my name is Erin Winick. I am currently a sophomore at Freedom High School. I am taking a photo class in school this term but have always had a passion for photography. I grew up with my dad always taking pictures and letting me try out the camera.

Nature is one of my favorite things to photograph, as you can see below. All of my family hikes and vacations provide great opportunities to take pictures, although many of these are taken near my home.

A few years ago, I discovered an interest in journalism. I love watching the news and following current events. I am a staff writer for the newspaper at my school and take an occasional picture for the paper as well. In November, I traveled to Washington, D.C., and was one of 13 students nationwide to receive a Superior in news writing.

I am a daily reader of the St. Petersburg Times and am grateful to XPI and Newspaper in Education for showcasing my work. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to look at my photographs.
