Sweet Salvation

When I was the pirate of the seas, you saved my life.
When I was at war, you were the fife.
To imagination, you were my ride.
To sweet salvation, you were my guide.
Even though it was never true,
My childish side thanks you.

With a little imagination and a little trick,
And a simple toy that we call a stick,
I could be a commander in a civil war
And have many adventures and battles galore.
Even though it was never true,
My childish side thanks you.

James Blanton, seventh grade

The Enemy

White sand
Blistering on bare feet
Wandering
White sun
Nowhere
Whispering away
Slowly
Time is my enemy
Forever sleeping

Zeke Handelman, eighth grade

Beyond the Sky

Wind tickles my bones
As I'm sitting alone
Footprints beyond the sky
Only mine
Perfect Snow Angels will be made
Resting on the empty color
Silence overpowers

Katherine Goncharov, eighth grade

Wasteland

Warm sand, wasteland.
Hoof prints, tiny hints.
Who would walk here?
I don't know.
Who would walk here?
Who would know?
Perhaps a camel dragging on.
Maybe Egyptians carrying tons.
I can't imagine who was here
or anyone surviving near.

Sara Casagrande, eighth grade

East Side Right

Sun was bright
from the East side right
Shining a light
full of grace and fight

Birds will take flight
like a graceful kite
Seeing the sight
not quite as I see

There's more to be seen
A moon full of what's keen
It seems to lean
Beautiful, majestic as a queen

Ricky Umeda, eighth grade

Fast Lights

Lights dye the sky
Cars keep driving by
They go fast
They make the trees look a mile high

I'm still and slow
watching Paris glow

As the stores hug the street sides
and flags sit behind trees and hide

Red and white
from the tail lights
This car sits in the middle
of Paris's delight
Each person that's walking
sees the rainbow of lights

It looks like people are in a rush
but really it's just a city
There is no hush

Thoughts go through my mind
as I smell the sweet tree pine

The flags sit on the streets and wave
from all the warriors, wise and brave

Maddison Gudgel, seventh grade

My First Best Friend

My first best friend
Dark chocolate eyes and cream fur
Butterscotch nose
Smooth silk paws and ears
Silk bow around her neck

Open arms ready to embrace
Quirky smile always on her face
Hugging me when I was sad
Chased away my fears at night

Sitting in the corner of my room
Covered in pillows
Forgotten and left alone
My first best friend
