I'm in Love...

(haiku)

It is a new world
It reaches inside of me
It clenches my soul

Reading

Tiny black letters spread across the page
They grow yellow and weary with age
It appears as though I am not moving
Yet a picture forms in my mind, which others envy
Impossible in reality
Better than any special effects movie
What the mind produces is of great vitality

A captivating, motionless adventure is what lies beneath the cover
Unknown, and left for me to discover

Two poems by Mala Coomar, 11th grade

Just Sittin' Around, watercolor and colored pencil
Maleia Melone, third grade, Espiritu Santo Catholic School, Safety Harbor

Madeira Beach Middle School

Dolphin in the Waves

I leap and fall
Back into the endless mouth of blue
I am strong and fierce
I can face any wave
Leap over any cave
I break down the wall
And the next, and the next
I feel the salt absorbing into my skin
I taste the refreshing scent of sand and seaweed on my tongue
Feel the soothing spread of cool water racing over my fins
I am speed
I leap up through the cutting edge of glass
Break through the steel garters
I am unstoppable
I dive
Dive deep
My breath is steady
My eyes are focused
I am almost there
I can see the ocean floor
The sand swaying silently below me
Inviting me in
I touch the bottom with my long nose and
With a whip of my tail I turn
I am going up
Up, up, up
I streak through the water like a cheetah after its prey
I can see the birds flying above me
Circling above me
As if I was their dinner
(Yeah right, they can only dream)
Just a few more feet
I am free
Sly as a tiger
I leap
Flying high
I can touch the clouds from here
And for a second
I can glimpse eternity
I am a dolphin
A dolphin in the waves
