Spotlight on Samantha Ness, 12th grade
St. Petersburg Catholic High School

Samantha on Samantha ...

Hi, my name is Sam Ness. I am 18 years old and a senior at St. Petersburg Catholic High School. I am a pretty quiet girl, but once you get to know me, I am probably the biggest dork you will ever meet. I have been drawing ever since I could pick up a marker. My mom told me I would draw everywhere I could: magic markers hit paper, walls and even the carpeting in our house, and I would always get in trouble, even though I blamed my sister. Those drawings always had the three letters: S A M.

Although I always have liked to draw and doodle, I never thought of it as a career. I actually wanted to be a dentist. That all changed once I hit freshman year and took my first drawing class. Art lets me express myself in ways words cannot. Color, nature and random objects inspire my art.

I am so excited to be attending the Ringling College of Art and Design in August. I am a modern day hippie and romantic; art will never leave me.
