This Wisconsin Town Is Putting A Price On Bullies
Shawano, Wisconsin, has passed a new ordinance giving police the right to fine the parents of bullies. The ordinance prohibits all forms of harassment — including cyberbullying — inside city limits and applies to anyone under the age of 18. Parents of kids identified as bullies would have about three to correct the problems before being fined for their child's behavior.
■Class discussion: Do you think fining parents could stop bullying? Why or why not? Have you ever bullied anyone? Why or why not? Have you ever been bullied? If so, did you tell anyone about it? What does your school or community do about bullying? What works to stop bullies? What doesn't work?
